'Neptune Fountain' by Bartolomeo Ammanati – Piazza Della Signoria

Framed by the magnificent Piazza della Signoria, the Neptune Fountain is one of the most famous and beloved sculptures in the city. Bartolomeo Ammannati, a sculptor who was among the most able of the Medici court, was given the commission and the work was completed in 1575. The Fountain has undergone limited diagnostic analysis by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure – the Florentine Center for Art Restoration. The results confirm the need for restoration, including the addition of a hydraulic water treatment system.
